There are Bears in Canada!

I know this is only slightly food related and I do have some wonderful discoveries in Vancouver to share but this was an amazing experience. The bears were in a hazelnut orchard next to the house we rented.

Cubs are way back munching on hazelnuts
I had gone for a walk before packing to come back to Malibu. I was walking up our long driveway to get to the road when I heard the cracking of nutshells and munching. I looked to my right and thought to myself - "That's funny, I didn't know there were cows next door. Oh - those are not cows, those are bears!" There was a mother and her two cubs.
Mom makes sure I know who is boss
.
I walked quietly back to the house and grabbed my camera and got in the car. . (thought that was wise). I spent the next half an hour taking pictures and watching these magnificent animals having their picnic. The cubs were standing on their hind legs grabbing as many nuts as they could. They did not want to go and rolled on their backs to protest when mom insisted it was time.
She says - "Don't move while I cross the road to gather the cubs

At last it was Back towards the river
