Hillsdale Farmers Market

Spent the most wonderful couple of hours in this market. We were freezing but managed to bring home an amazing amount of food including fresh butter, black truffles, razorback clams, flatbread, brick oven bagels and fresh goat cheese with olive/artichoke tapenade. Did not go for the yak or elk but maybe next time?
Did go for the a goat shoulder steak which I haven't made yet but am anxious to try.
And also bought some awesome canadian pepper bacon from these folks.
The coup of the day had to be popcorn from Ayers Creek. They also grind it to make polenta. We tried it with black truffle butter and salt. Heavenly!
There were baskets of wild mushrooms and black truffles hunted by dogs who will not eat them as pigs apparently do.
I made a great pasta dish with black truffles from that stand and a combination of homemade lemon and spinach fettucine from this one - the pasta is from a recipe from the vendors Nonna in the picture on the table.
Then of course between Sundays - there is my one of my favorite local markets Zupans which looks like a farmers market in their displays of fresh vegetables
They also make divine Pork Cubano sandwiches on hard rolls put into a sandwich press and toasted slightly.
And now we are off to take a walk of Beverly Cleary's neighborhood for those of you who read all the Ramona books when you were young. Also plan a stop at Laurelhurst market which is a butcher shop by day and a restaurant by night. Very cool!
